Its not Parliament, it is a party office

The massively expensive, irresponsibly constructed and environmentally destructive building opposite the Parliament building built as part of the “Central Vista Redevelopment Project” is not to be mistaken as an office for the elected representatives where both opposition and the government would conduct themselves according to the Constitution of India and make laws and policies to benefit the people of the country – in short the newly built, massively expensive, irresponsibly constructed and environmentally destructive building is the ruling party’s Party Office.

The only agenda:

The ruling party’s party office has one and only agenda – how to win the next elections and this is a 5 year agenda which includes but not restricted to

  • Making laws to benefit those who donated to the ruling party
  • Shock the society, the economy and the public to benefit the ruling party
  • Invent catch phrases, slogans and other policies abbreviated as PM something which are nothing more than election campaign stunts to fill the brochures and the posters
  • Suppress any criticism of the government by abusing the executive powers and encroaching and exploiting the independent institutions i.e. the CBI, ED, Judiciary, the banks and last but not the least the MEDIA
  • Curbing and curtailing the freedom of speech and expression in the name of national security

Not unannounced emergency

What’s laid out above is exactly what happened in an emergency and what is happening now and has happening for a few years now. And since there is no opposition in the form of the independent institutions and the MEDIA, this isn’t being called out but this is an emergency. And with every passing year and with every elections and with every electoral bond being sold, the noose around the democracy tightens suffocating it further. Some disasters which the government was never held accountable for as a result of this stifled democracy which in an otherwise healthy and vibrant democracy would have costed their chances of winning elections

  • demonetization disasters
  • the intelligence failure of the Pulwama attack where India lost 40 soldiers
  • the disruptive lockdown
  • the ill-conceived GST
  • the migrant crisis during the covid
  • the unemployment report
  • the farm laws
  • the abuse of the finance (money) bill
  • the UAPA

The abuse of power and institutions has become so blatant that the ruling party had been conducting its party business and carrying out the party agenda for the next elections using public (tax payers) money in the newly built, massively expensive, irresponsibly constructed and environmentally destructive building – the Party Office.

Let us stop fooling ourselves that what is happening is Parliamentary democracy. What is happening is simply the Party meeting, where the (party) members and may be their friends exist only to raise their hands and/or voices in support of the resolutions being proposed – no opposition even within the party, no discussion even within the party and no debates even within the party.

And let us stop fooling ourselves that the building is the Parliament – it is simply the Party office.
